NCAA ATSSSAN CHAIRMAN 25TH ANNIVERSAY

Comrade Aderemi Aderinkomi, Branch Chairman, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, (NCAA)

Workers employed by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, have given Capt Chris Ona Najomo, Acting Director General Civil Aviation, Ag DGCA, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Abuja, a clean bill of health for his workers’ welfare-centric programs to strengthen oversight functions in the nation’s air transport industry.

The leadership of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, NCAA chapter made the public declaration of the outcome of workers’ appraisal of Capt Najomo’s expeditious performance within one year in office.

In a media statement felicitating the NCAA management and especially the “Pilot in Command,” Capt Najomo, for unveiling the insignia and other monuments for the authority’s 25th-anniversary program, the workers said the Ag DGCA deserved the commendation not only of the workers alone but of all Nigerians who employ air transport services in their business and social lives.

According to the media statement signed by ATSSSAN, NCAA Chapter Chairman, Comrade Aderemi Aderinkomi, said the association did not take for granted, “the Ag DGCA’s sheer audacity to make a difference and his passion in recognizing aviation staff as a critical factor in ensuring safety, security, regularity and development of Civil Aviation in Nigeria as worthy of commendation by all Nigerians”.

The senior staff described the Ag DGCA as visionary and thus enthused, “We celebrate the passion, resilience and a purpose-driven focus to re-engineer and reposition the NCAA towards truly fulfilling its mandate and vision as one of the leading CAAs in the world”.

However, the ATSSSAN NCAA’s chapter rallied all its members and the entire workforce to totally cooperate with the programs soon to be unveiled by the management for the 25-year anniversary.

The statement urged, “The union hereby call on our members and workers to renew their commitment to the noble ideals of hard work and selflessness as they carry out their regulatory oversight responsibilities within the aviation ecosystem”.

Comrade Aderemi Aderinkomi, Branch Chairman, claimed that ATSSSAN “recognizes that the path forward lies in cooperation, collaboration and communication, thoughtful engagement and unified action”.

Hence, Aderinkomi implored all NCAA staff to “continuously work with NCAA management to ensure efficient resource management as well as the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s aviation industry”.

FEW ACHIEVEMENTS OF CAPT CHRIS NAJOMO AS CHRONICLED BY ATSSSAN, NCAA’S CHAPTER

Sequel to the encomium showered on the Acting DGCA by ATSSSAN, our correspondent enquired for concrete evidence to discern if the commendation was apolitical or not. Below is the response from the chapter secretariat;

  1. With the approval of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, the Acting Director General, Civil Aviation, Ag DGCA, Capt Chris Najomo, of NCAA succeeded in quashing the retrogressive policy that denied staff promotion when it fell due under the guise of no vacancy at the height/next level an officer aspires to attain.
Comrade Umahi Emeka Felix, Branch Secretary, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, (NCAA)

2. Capt Najomo resuscitated the moribund long service award for staff. The gesture is to boost the morale of staff, improve their commitment, and enhance their productivity.

3. The allowance due staff relocated from Lagos to Abuja Head Quarter of NCAA since 2019, with the untold accommodation problem suffered by the staff, was paid in less than one year of assumption of office

4. Capt Najomo within five months in office, succeeded in eliciting the approval of the aviation minister for the reviewed 2016 staff Conditions of Service. Implementation of the negotiated and approved condition of service is eagerly awaited

5. Regular and robust engagement with in-house workers’ unions to foster collaboration, negotiation and participatory administration has translated to workers’ buy-in and higher productivity.

6. Revamping of dilapidated office infrastructure at all NCAA regional offices to provide a conducive work environment for improved productivity
