The management of Nnamdi Azikwe University, UNIZIK, Awka, Anambra State, has begun an investigation into the death of an undergraduate who jumped from a three-storey private hostel near Royal Kitchen Junction, Ifite-Awka, Awka South Local Government Area of the State.

First responders to the great thud from the fall alleged that the student might have momentarily lost his mind, probably after consuming some unknown, weird substances suspected to be “mkpurummiri”.

The well-meaning neighbours who promptly responded to rescue the student did all they could to bring him back to life and headed to the hospital.

At the neighbourhood hospital, the doctor on duty merely placed his fingers on vital parts of the patient’s body and instantly declared the student was brought in dead.

Exasperated by the futile efforts, and wondering what had gone wrong within the time he was seen hale and hearty before the fall, they reached his room to interrogate his roommate.

According to an eyewitness account, the deceased’s roommate was found completely out of his mind and could not situate his environment nor comprehend the questions he was expected to field.

The rescue party expressed the notion that the roommate was still heavily inebriated, believing he was still under the influence of the substance both of them were alleged to have abused.

UNIZIK’s Chief Security Officer, CSO, Ken Chukwura, confirmed the incident and revealed the deceased’s roommate had been taken to custody until he regains his mind to give an account of what transpired between them before the friend’s deadly jump.

Chukwurah said, “We are still investigating to be sure of what happened, how it happened and the proper identity of the victim”.
