2022 HAJJ: Lagos Govt. Soon to Host Stakeholders Parley

The Lagos state government is contemplating stakeholders meeting with intending Pilgrims, Officials of the National Hajj Commission, NAHCON, and Officials of the Lagos Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at a date to be fixed after the Eid-El-Fitr Celebration.
The meeting is being strongly considered by the state government to clear grey areas as to the sudden astronomically high airfare for the year 2022 pilgrimage.
A statement signed by the Commissioner for Ministry of Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Olanrewaju Elegushi, gave the result of investigations his ministry conducted as to the rationale if any, for the hajj fare increase.
He said the response by NAHCON to the ministry’s preliminary inquiry revealed that NAHCON increased Hajj fare due to the free fall of the local currency, the NAIRA, against the dollar, USD. Also fingered was the increase in the Value Added Tax, VAT, from 5% to 7.5%, and also found culpable was the geometrical increase in the pump price of Aviation Fuel, JET A1.
The media statement enjoined intending Pilgrims from Lagos State to attend the forthcoming, very important stakeholders meeting when called, in order to clear the grey areas.
Prince Anofiu Elegushi pledged that the Ministry of Home Affairs will not relent in offering top-notched services to all Lagos state pilgrims in the course of fulfilment of a major Pillar of Islam.
