Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Chairman of the board of Directors, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has passed a vote of implicit confidence in the Managing Director of FAAN, in the person of Mrs Oluwabunmi Oluwaseun Kuku.
Abdullahi Ganduje, the former two-term Governor of Kano State, also described the directors that compose the management crew of FAAN as distinguished individuals in their rights, now are duty-bound to work as a team for the success of the air travel industry in Nigeria.
The former governor with an exciting and eventful tenure in Kano state, urged the FAAN management to adopt the principles of management by objective, MBO, which he said should be collectively subscribed to, and unitedly supported to fruition in whatever challenge the management set out to surmount.
Dr Ganduje, offered commendation and advice in good corporate governance during his maiden visit to the corporate headquarters of FAAN, as chairman of the board of directors. The board chairman was also conducted around the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday.

Ganduje who spoke after briefing from the management and after conducting an inspection tour of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos, commended FAAN managent for being on the right trajectory towards accomplishing its mandate.
He said from his observation, the FAAN management “is blessed with competent Managing Director” in the person of Mrs Oluwabunmi Oluwaseun Kuku, and also the directors he perceived as distinguished individuals in their own right.
He said all the international airports that lived up to expectations in the quality of service delivery were products of thoughtfulness by their managers, and they often followed up with proactive action in the maintenance and continuous development of the aerodrome.
He added that in those climes where the airports rendered nearly impeccable service were the product of adequate motivation of the entire workforce coupled with leadership that is visionary in all its management decisions and in the execution of their programs and projects.

The elder statesman however noted that the management of FAAN is on the right track towards achieving those lofty goals for the airports under its management.
He added that his meeting with the management revealed that the team under Oluwabunmi Kuku “has begun laying a very good foundation, and I’ve been appealing to them so that we can continue and improve what they have done so far”.
The immediate past number one citizen of Kano state also volunteered tutorials for his directors on very crucial aspects of project management- budgeting and timeline.
In his velvetone voice, the septuagenarian charged the management members to keep in their hearts that, “the implementation of your budget, you should have a timeline so that you know exactly where and when you want to achieve something because delay means a lot.
He also highlighted the sad consequences delay could bring saying “Inflation comes in, deterioration comes in, vandalization comes in, then you will notice nobody is giving attention to anything and people will develop apathy. We must be conscious of the timeline. If you are giving out a contract you have to make sure this is the time you are expecting it so that we can avoid those intricacies I just mentioned that will come.”

To keep tabs on all that is required in airport operations at the management level, the chairman requested he be given homework that will enable him to be acquainted with procedures and processes in airport management.
Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s parting shot to his directors was a directive thus, “Finally I request all directorate and directors to give a summary in writing so that I will be able to understand the functions of each one of them and the expectations from them so that I will be able to provide guidance.”
