L-R: Mr Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation & Aerospace Development, swore in Dr Abdullahi Ganduje as Board Chairman of FAAN, who publicly pledged that the Board will not meddle in the day-to-day running of the parastatal, thus avoiding incidents that could cause “overshooting the runway”
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has sworn in an eight-member board for the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN. Appointed as board chairman is Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past national chairman of the ruling political party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Festus Keyamo, speaking at the inauguration of the board, volunteered a brief tutorial thus, “As we inaugurate this new board, we carry the weight of expectations that we must continue to foster an environment where aviation can thrive, connect diverse regions, and promote socio-economic development across our nation”, he said.
The minister further acquainted board members with the public expectations from them, saying, “The challenges we face are numerous—from infrastructure deficits to the ever-evolving dynamics of global aviation. Yet, I am confident that the wealth of experience and the expertise that each of you brings to this board will be instrumental in steering FAAN towards achieving its mission.”

He further charged the newly inaugurated board to support FAAN and carry out their duties as stipulated in the FAAN Act.
The Minister who is a legal luminary urged board members to familiar themselves with the act that established FAAN so as to avoid conflicts of meddling in day to day activities of the management instead of being engrossed in policy formulation and principles to guide the management in its day to day running of the parastatal through the oversight the Managing Director.
Keyamo enthused, “To the newly inaugurated board members, you have been entrusted with a critical mandate. You are not merely figureheads; you are the architects of our aviation future”.
He further distilled the board task thus, “Your role demands a meticulous approach to governance, a commitment to transparency, and an unwavering dedication to the principles enshrined in the act that established the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN”.

The expectation from board members according to the act, Keyamo said, included ensuring safety and security; promoting sustainable development: enhancing passenger experience; and fostering collaboration.
Keyamo further charged the board members thus, “As you embark on this new chapter, remember that the eyes of the nation are upon you. The success of FAAN is not measured merely by financial growth but by the impact it has on the lives of ordinary Nigerians. Your work will ensure that our airports become not just gateways to the world but also symbols of national pride and progress,” he noted.
Responding on behalf of the board, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the board Chairman, said his crew will assist the Aviation and Aerospace Development Ministry in moving FAAN to the next level.

On the charge of getting acquainted with legal framework that defines the task of FAAN, Dr Ganduje promised that board members “will study the Act that established FAAN to see our boundary, so that we do not exceed our boundary”
Hence, he reiterated, “I know this is a common problem between the boards and the executive management and the ministry. So we are fully conscious of this. Therefore, the board members and I will study the Act so that we do not go out of bounds, as we do not want to overshoot on the runway”.
