The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, has begun comprehensive checks of the entire air navigational equipment at the Ogun Agro Cargo International Airport, Illisan-Remo, to ensure a safe and smooth takeoff and landing with the aid of top-notch Instrument Landing Systems, ILS.
The leader of the team from NAMA, Engr Miri Selzing, General Manager, Flight Calibration Services, who supervised the calibration and flight checked on Monday, the navigational aids equipment already installed in the trenches, and around the tangled mass of tropical vegetation contiguous to the aerodrome, expressed satisfaction about the entire airport’s operations architecture.
Selzing, who also expressed satisfaction with the quality of the 4 kilometres long runway, most likely the longest in Nigeria, said the objective of the checks conducted was to synchronise the entire air navigation, communication, and surveillance equipment with the proposed procedures defined for the airport.

He, however, added that data elicited and collated from the equipment flight checked will be analysed at NAMA’s laboratory, and appropriate recommendations shall be dispensed where and when they are necessary.
Selzing said the ultimate goal of the series of checks conducted was to ensure high fidelity from the omnidirectional radio communication equipment, precision from navigation and surveillance equipment, such as glideslope, and to ascertain that they are all aligned with the proposed procedures defined for the airport.
Engr. Ade Akinsanya, the Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, whose office is saddled with the supervision of projects for the airport construction, said that the cargo and passenger aerodrome is ninety-seven per cent completed (97%).
He said the last critical aspect of aligning the airport with the global international airports community will soon be completed since NAMA had kick-started the last critical checks to accomplish the objective of a viable commercial aiport.

Akinsanya explained further that once the NAMA checks, calibration and synchronisation of air navigation, communication, and surveillance equipment are found in order, the “waypoint” will be established on the internet for identification by all flight commanders worldwide.
He noted that as soon as NAMA accomplishes its set objectives, commercial operations into, and out of the airport would begin without further delay.
Akinsanya announced that the airport control tower is ready and the Air Traffic Controllers’ (ATC) office is also ready. And the office for the aerodrome and fire-fighting personnel is also ready, with abundant aquifer water to fight all classes of fires.
