L-R: Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, the First lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the host, Gov Dapo Abiodun, at the commission of Gateway International Airport, Illisan-Remo, Ogun State
As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was conducted round to greet the dignitaries waiting for his arrival to commission the Gateway Airport, Ilisan Remo, in the Ikenne Local Government of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, he was led to the row where former President Olusegun Obasanjo was positioned.
While the sitting President stretched out his hand with all reverence to shake the hand of elder statesman, Obasanjo, President Tinubu said, “Ah, Baba, I am loyal!”
Pronto, the former President Olusegun Obasanjo retorted, “I am more loyal, my President”. All nearby dignitaries who heard the exchange of banter burst into a cacophony of laughter.
The playlet was conducted by Aremo Olusegun Osoba, who thereafter added an icing onto the cake by calling President Tinubu’s attention to the sneakers with a pliable rubber sole that adorned the feet of OBJ, an octogenarian
As the sitting President turned his gaze to the feet of the former President, Aremo Osoba quipped that was an indication that there is no recluse among the aged and the elderly in Egba land, a clan/race of people that are distinct in Ogun state.
Relevance of Gateway Airport- By former President Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo described the airport as a landmark project, noting that it would significantly reduce travel time for residents.
The elder statesman enthused, “I’ve landed here from Abuja, and it took me 45 minutes from here to my home, which is at least 25 minutes shorter than if I had landed in Lagos,” he said.
Expressing appreciation for the investment Gov Dapo Abiodun made of air transport infrastructure, Pa Obasaanjo declared, “I want to thank our governor for making us proud of what we are commissioning today. I am happy to be a witness to this historic occasion.”
