No fewer than 150 Nigerian Children have been pencilled for free open heart surgery, courtesy of the strategic medical collaboration between Arik Air and the global medical surgery network, Hospitals for Humanity.
According to the media statement from Arik, and signed by Mr. Bamji Ola, Head of Corporate Communications, the initiative will enable Arik Air to provide flights to various destinations within the Federak Republic of Nigeria, FRN, where Hospitals for Humanity’s Medical Mission, HMM, to Nigeria is scheduled to conduct the much-touted open heart surgery.
The statement announced that the HMM will assemble arrays of volunteer medical specialists, such as paediatricians, cardiac surgeons, and other healthcare professionals, around the world, critical to the success of the highly sensitive surgery.

The statement affirmed that the medical team from all walks of life will perform the complex heart surgeries exclusively for free at no cost to the families involved.
The statement described Arik Air’s support as “invaluable in helping Hospitals for Humanity achieve ease of logistics for children and their parents who reside in destinations far from the surgery location, including health care volunteers”.
Commenting on this laudable project, Arik Air’s Chief Executive Officer CEO, Capt. Roy Ilegbodu enthused, “We are honoured to stand alongside Hospitals for Humanity in their mission to give hope and a second chance at life to children with congenital heart defects”.
Ilegbodu further explained about the resolve to give hope to the hopeless, saying “this initiative aligns with Arik Air’s dedication to not only connecting people through air travel but also investing in the well-being of our communities”, he said.

The Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Hospitals for Humanity, Dr. Segun Ajayi said: “Over the years, Hospitals for Humanity has performed numerous successful surgeries and impacted countless lives. However, the demand remains high, and with continued support from organisations like Arik Air, even more children can receive the critical care they need”.
It can be recalled that congenital heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in children worldwide, especially in developing nations where access to specialised surgical care is limited.
