AJ VS MUM

Anthony Joshua with his Mum Yeta Odusanya who has rushed to his bedside to help him recover

A media statement from Anthony Joshua (AJ) spokesperson confirmed that a road crash which involved AJ and two of his bosom friends and team members occurred on Monday, 29th December 2025, on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The statement narrated thus, “With profound sadness it has been confirmed that two close friends and team members Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele have tragically passed away.

It said further that, “Matchroom Boxing and 258 BXG can confirm that Anthony sustained injuries in the accident and was taken to hospital for checks and treatment”.

The statement reiterated “He is in a stable condition and will remain there for observation”.

It appealed to fans worldwide thus, “Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the families and friends of all those affected – and we ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time”.

The statement concluded with a caveat that, “No further comment will be made at this time.”

Also, it has been reliably brought to our notice that AJ’s mum Yeta Odusanya, has been at her son’s bedside at the Duchess International Hospital in Lagos to provide critical help critical to the wellbeing of her son.

Another issue of concern is that the full extent of the damage the crash might have caused to the two-time heavyweight champion both physically and mentally remains unclear.

AJ’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, has spoken out about the stress the extended family has been through as they try to make contact with the injrued former heavyweight champion.

He explained: “We did not know on time that he was involved in an accident, it was really a rude shock to the family.

“Since the incident happened we have been rallying round to see if it is possible to get to see our son but that has been impossible because of his status, we don’t know the hospital he was taking to.

“However, we have been in touch with his father and mother who are also in Nigeria and they have assured us that Joshua is fine.”

Doubts are now being cast over if AJ will ever return to a boxing ring – especially amid rumours of a £100m mega-fight with Tyson Fury.

While Joshua escaped the mangled wreck of the car, two of his closest friends died at the scene.

Childhood friend Latif Ayodele and trusted fitness guru Sina Ghami were both travelling with the boxing superstar when they hit the truck which was parked on the side of the highway.
