As Lagos Prepares To Host PBAT: BOS Keeps Eagle Eye On Closing The Gaps Before Red Line Mass Transit Train Is Commissioned

In ensuring that no loose end is left unattended ahead of the commissioning of the Lagos State Mass Transit -Red Line- Rail project by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, PBAT, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, BOS, has also maintained a close oversight on the project, as he again personally conducted an onsite inspection of the finishing paraphernalia to the historic rail project.
Governor Sanwo-Olu on his verified X handle, formerly known as Twitter, announced over the weekend that he visited some of the train stations along the Red Line train track which runs from Agbado in Ogun state, to Oyingbo in Lagos state.
Sanwo-Olu on his X handle disclosed thus, “Today {Sunday 18th February} I inspected the progress of work at the stations along the Red Line Rail, in anticipation of the commissioning.
The Governor who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and the volume of work already accomplished, ordered merchants of all manners of wares on the rail track to immediately vacate the dangerous position and look for a safer venue to ply their trade.
Sanwo-Olu thus admonished, “It’s crucial to emphasize that, the railway tracks are designated for transportation and not for commercial activities or as a market space. The railway tracks are not a marketplace for you to display and sell your wares”, said the Governor.
There is no doubt that law enforcement agents will not fold their harm and watch people deliberately put their lives on the line although ignorantly. At the same time, the lives of their customers will also be threatened by transacting any form of enterprise on the rail track.
Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu while speaking at the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) Stakeholders’ Forum 2024, announced that the commissioning of the 37km Red Line Rail Mass Transit will be held on Thursday, 29th February 2024.
The completion of this laudable multimodal transportation which successive civilian governments have since been pushing for over 40 years, the governor said, would make it the second of the six proposed integrated mass rail transit corridors in Nigeria’s biggest commercial city.
The Red Line Rail Transport Mass Transit designated to operate from Agbado, in Ogun State, will terminate in Oyingbo and has eight (8) stop-stations for the disembarkation and embarkation of commuters.
The designated stop-stations are, Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and Oyingbo.
According to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, who conceived the project, conceptualized the process of bringing it to fruition, and exercised technical oversight on the entire project and the adviser to the state government, about 500,000 commuters will be transported daily by the light train coaches to be dedicated to the route.
