Hadi Sirika, Minister of Aviation, says the President Muhammadu Buhari administration has committed significant resources to the nation’s air transport industry, recognizing the crucial role aviation plays in enhancing the security architecture of the country.
The Minister made the statement at the groundbreaking ceremony of the proposed Hadejia Airport, Jigawa state, where he performed the ceremonial task on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The N7.48bn project has a completion period of 18 months.
Sirika said the PMB government’s conviction in aviation as the fastest means of connecting markets, people, and cultures, and its inherent ability to strengthen the country’s economy and promote food security informed the unflinching support the industry had enjoyed in the present dispensation.
Hence, he avowed in his speech at the event thus, “Today we are performing the groundbreaking ceremony to re-establish air transportation in this very historic city town of Hadejia”.
He said the airport whose groundbreaking was being done had been penciled in for the promotion of food security with the view to boosting the economy through Hadejia Airport in Jigawa State.

Sirika further enunciated among other things, how the airport would be put to use on completion, that it will be used to transport agricultural products from Jigawa and other neighboring states to different parts of the country and beyond.
He noted the federal government initiative would be deploying aviation to combat crime and insecurity, while also promoting the free movement of people and goods.
He congratulated the Governor of Jigawa State, Mohammed Abubakar, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Adamu Fanini, for achieving this huge investment.
He also emphasized the importance of aviation infrastructure, stating that it can help boost the economy and create jobs.
The minister further urged the people of Hadejia to take advantage of the airport to export their agricultural products, including fish and fura.
Sirika announced that the contract for the Hadejia Airport construction had been awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC.
