L-R: Barr. Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation, Mr. Kabir Yusuf Mohammed, MD, FAAN at the inspection of facilities at Lagos Airport

Barrister Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has charged the leadership of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, to look inward in its quest to boost revenue.

Hence, the minister ordered a committee to be constituted, and directed the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, to serve as the chairman of the committee.

Keyamo was of the opinion that, if more stringent measures and effective e-business are deployed, especially at the airports known to be cash cows like the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, the airport manager’s revenue will experience a quantum leap.

According to the media statement from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, signed by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Abdulahi Yakubu-Funtua, the committee is expected to come up with an effective and efficient framework that would enable the airport managers to maximize existing revenue points.

The Minister charged that thorough examination be conducted on all revenue points but isolated just three for critical forensic appraisal, and thereafter proffer recommendations that should turn out to be foolproof when executed.

Barr. Keyamo directed the committee to come up with methodologies to achieve maximum return from advertising points in the nation’s airports.

Keyamo further directed the committee to critically examine the ticketing systems at all FAAN’s Facilities nationwide, and recommend ways to plug leakages, improve, and retain revenue therefrom.

He also directed a holistic view of the existing waiver policy, and to identify the loopholes, and come up with foolproof methods of waivers, and a credit control policy regime that would not bleed the authority but provide a shot in the arm to FAAN’s revenue base.

The committee is expected to submit its report in four weeks’ time.
