Security operatives with canine dogs, implementation of its approval in Nigerian airports is eagerly awaited

The planned strike by Nigeria’s aviation security and logistics personnel scheduled for today, Wednesday, 16th August 2023, has been put on hold due to the intervention of the Director General Civil Aviation, DGCA, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Nuhu Musa.

In a chat with the Secretary-General, the National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, Comrade Ocheme Aba, confirmed that the intervention of Capt. Nuhu Musa had stalled the planned demonstration.

Aba explained the strike is to create national awareness on the exploitation of workers rendering safety-critical services to air transport in Nigeria.

Comrade Ocheme Aba said that Capt. Nuhu Musa reached out to the leadership of the unions and in the ensuing discussions, he requested for one week to allow him to find out the fact about the entire exploitation, and come up with ways and means to remedy the inhuman situation.

Asked if there was any formal transmission of correspondents, he said nothing of such yet, but discussions were held on the phone with the DGCA, and on his honour, gave them his words hence, the postponement of the demonstration.

Aba however said that sequel to the intervention, the gentlemanliness of the unions’ leadership had caused to be transmitted to all members in all the chapters to keep the planned strike on hold for the next one week while waiting on the outcome of the DGCA intervention on the matter.

Comrade Aba noted that the union had been on the vexed issue of a slave wage of N30,000.00k per month for aviation security personnel for not less than to years now.
