All genres of aviation workers’ unions in Nigeria have put their entire members in all the aviation agencies on notice, irrespective of workers’ official cadres, about the proposed peaceful rally by members in all formations natiowide.
According to the joint statement issued by the Joint Action Committee, JAC, of Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, Association Nigerian Aviation Professionals, ANAP, and the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, the unions now wish to execute the agreement reached at its meeting of 21st August, to take action if workers are not regarded as stakeholders in all the issues bedeviling the industry.
The statement lamented that nothing was heard on numerous contentious issues that bordered on workers’ welfare, job security in the light of the various projects and reforms variously touted by the federal government.
The unions jointly mentioned issues that informed their proposed peaceful rally as the contentious issues of airport concession, pensioners neglect, among others.
At the headquarters in Lagos, the statement directed all members to converge at the Freedom Square by 8am on Monday, 31st August, 2020, for their peaceful rally.
It directed that similar peaceful rally should be done in all the outstations simultaneously nationwide as their future lies on the correctness and sincerity of any reform to be introduced to the industry.
The joint statement reminded workers of the dictum that, “when injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty”.
The unions however charged all workers that would be at the rally in their respective formations, to come with their face masks while imperative that, physical distancing must be maintained.Share
