Workers led by NUATE’s Scribe, Comrade Ocheme Aba, at Arik Air gate with overflow to the main road
Aviation workers are lamenting and sighing over what they described as “obnoxious objective and social-economic criminality” in the manner a government agency, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON, and the management of Arik Air, are going about to midwife a new airline, NG Eagle, in the air transport space in Nigeria.
The workers who obviously have been overwhelmed by what they described as the numerous shenanigans of Arik Air management which is under the receivership of AMCON, held their meeting Friday, on the road and in rags.
The workers were led by the Secretary General, National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, Comrade Ocheme Aba, who explained that the workers chose to be in such garb as a reflection of the total abandonment by the Arik Airline management under the supervision of AMCON and industry oversight body, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority of Nigeria, NCAA, who they claimed must have given tacit support to the current shenanigans by AMCON.
In a statement by the Secretary-General of NUATE, the union wondered why a new airline is being brought to birth under the ominous signs of an imminent headwind being created by a thoroughly fouled and convoluted industrial atmosphere at Arik Air.
The union leaders who obviously are rabidly determined to protect the workers asked what would be the fate of the previous years of service of some Arik staff Presently on secondment to NG Eagle.
The statement asked, “What happens to the previous years of service, or how assured is the security of such service in their new assignments? Or, shall such service be in vain?
The media statement signed by the Secretary-General of NUATE, Comrade Ocheme Aba, revealed that the union had “raised the labour aspects before the Management of Arik Air as trade disputes”.
Aba added that “should the Management raise itself to the needed open-mindedness and open-heartedness, then we are willing and desirous of resolving issues amicably as expected of progressive social partners. Then we shall welcome NG Eagle with our Solidarity Song and pop champagne”
The statement included the conditionality that “in the event that the reverse of the above is the case, then we shall sing our Solidarity Song as a call to the struggle to fight for the rights of Arik Air’s long-suffering employees”.
The union affirmed that its leadership are ready for a meaningful and productive dialogue with Arik management on the workers’ outstanding dues, so as to achieve industrial peace and placate the heavy storm being created by a thoroughly fouled and convoluted industrial atmosphere at Arik Air.
