Aviation Workers Unions to Begin Two Day Warning Strike on Monday

All the aviation unions have put the leadership of all the government aviation agencies on notice of a two-day warning strike beginning Monday 9th of May 2022.

The unions said the issue of signing off the agreed condition of service for implementation has lingered for too long.

Hence the unions called on their members at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, NCAT, to proceed on a two-day warning strike beginning on Monday, 2nd May 2022.

A media statement signed by the scribes of the three unions, comrade Abdul Razaq Saidu for Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, ANAP, Ocheme Aba, for National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE, and comrade Sikiru Waheed, for the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees, lamented the unwarranted delay of the workers’ condition service agreed upon seven years ago.

The media statement reads thus, “We regret to inform you all that despite our best efforts, the issue remains unresolved. That is the conditions of service of NAMA, NCAA, NiMeT, and NCAT as negotiated with agencies for upward of seven years remain with the National Salaries Income and Wages Commission, NSIWC, and the Minimum Wage Consequential Adjustment remains unimplemented since 2017”.

Also, the union frowned at the pace of work on the issue by the Federal Ministry of Aviation, FMA, and the NSWIC, that it did not reflect the expediency it deserved.

The statement added that should the warning strike be ignored the workers would have no alternative but to proceed on an indefinite strike.

Workers of FAAN and Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, are directed to support the warning strike so as to make it successful.

The statement advised the general public, particularly the air travelling public, as well as aviation businesses including the foreign airlines to review their itineraries and schedule accordingly.
