Avsec Operatives Strike Causes Over 300 Flight Cancellations in Germany

Over 300 flights have been cancelled at seven international airports in Germany as aviation security operatives down tools today Monday, 14th March 2022.
Flights were cancelled in the following airports, Cologne/Bonn, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Bremen, Hanover, Leipzig and Munich.
The aviation security personnel were clamouring for an increase in their wages to commensurate with the additional task the new normal, occasioned by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic had foistered on them.
According to the workers union, Verdi labour union, poor working conditions was another grievous reason for the airport security workers to stage a walkout at major airport hubs in Germany.
The workers’ body, Verdi labor union, disclosed that the workers demanded a pay rise of at least €1 ($1.10) per hour in cognizance to the staggering inflation that had made the cost of living very high.
Moreover, the union had earlier today put air travellers worldwide on notice especially those with scheduled flights through the Frankfurt airport tomorrow, Tuesday 15th March 2022, to rearrange their travel plans as the airport operations would be rendered redundant with the workers’ union work to rule.
However, the management of Frankfurt International Airport had already advised passengers through its official Twitter handle to reschedule their travel plans for tomorrow, Tuesday, to avoid disruptions the workers’ action may advertently cause them.
The avsec workers union announced that the salary negotiations are expected to take place on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th March 2022, in Berlin
