The chaos and total breakdown of passenger facilitation in most airports in Western Europe especially Heathrow and Gatwick, has compelled British Airways to mull the cancellation of over 650 flights in both airports in the month of July 2022.

According to travel analyst, Hannah Mckay, more than 76,000 BA seats are being yanked from Heathrow and 29,400 from Gatwick which will adversely affect flights to more than 70 destinations that have been summarily cancelled.

Industry data revealed that for the month of June, BA cancelled a total of 295 departures.

However, a government “amnesty” on the rules on airport slots is still in force until Friday, which allows airlines to change schedules without facing a potential penalty.

A BA spokesperson said “as the entire aviation industry continues to face the most challenging period in its history, regrettably it has become necessary to make some further reductions. We’re in touch with customers to apologize and offer to rebook them or issue a full refund.”
