Boat capsizes in Lagos, all 17 souls onboard rescued alive

An investigation has begun on the boat mishap that occurred yesterday around the Third mainland bridge close to the Bariga ferry terminal.

All the seventeen (17) passengers on board the boat were reportedly rescued alive.

The commercial passenger boat by name, Fazma Logistics took off from the Ikorodu ferry terminal at about 6.45 am en route Ebutte-Ero.

A media statement by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) said that its officers and some first responders rescued the 17 passengers on board.

LASWA statement thus narrated, “at about 7 am on Monday 20th of February 2023, a commercial passenger ferry named Fazma logistics, loaded with 17 passengers, left Ikorodu ferry terminal at exactly 6:45 am en route Ebute Ero but unfortunately capsized around the Third mainland bridge close to Bariga ferry terminal”.

It further made it known that all souls onboard were rescued alive and the boat recovery operation began in earnest.

The statement further revealed that “boat recovery operations commenced immediately while the boat captain is being interrogated and investigation is ongoing,” the statement read.
