In what seems an obvious response to the backlash against the N5 billion appropriated for the Presidential Yacht, the House of Representatives has reversed itself by reallocating the vote.
After the consideration on Thursday, and the passage of the N2.17 trillion supplementary budget by the House, the chairperson of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Bichi, (APC, Kano), announced that the erstwhile N5 billion voted for the Presidential Yacht had been reordered and added to the students’ loan vote.
While speaking to the media on the floor of the green chamber, Bichi stated that the committee had eliminated the item and transferred the vote to the student loan division, which now totaled N10 billion.
However, a reliable source in the Presidency divulged that originally, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, PBAT, did not yearn for the yacht and that the erstwhile vote was with all intent and purposes to serve the needs of the Nigerian Navy.
