CALABAR CARNIVAL GOES AWFUL, 7 DIED 29 INJURED, EVENT ON HOLD

The Camry car that rammed into spectators hailing, and yelling at participants at the Bikers/Exotic Cars Parade, a major aspect of the famous Calabar Carnival, brought the 2022 edition to an abrupt end.
The Bikers phase of this year’s Calabar Carnival has gone awry as 7 persons have been confirmed dead, and 29 others suffered various degrees of injuries when a car crashed into a Bikers’ Parade in front of the Jumat Mosque in Bogobiri, the capital city of Cross River State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when the driver of a Toyota Camry car lost control and rammed into a crowd of spectators that thronged the carnival route.
Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Maikano Hassan, who confirmed the incident also volunteered the number of casualties to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.
Hassan chronicled the casualties from the mishap to include 21 male adults, three women, two male children, and three female children.
He said that the injured were rushed to the Naval hospital and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
The Sector Commander added that the remains of the dead had been deposited in the two hospitals in Calabar.
Hence day 5 of the carnival was abruptly brought to a halt. The Bikers/Exotic Cars Parade is part of the events leading to the main Carnival Calabar that would have held today, Wednesday.
However, Gov Ayade had condoled the families of those who lost their lives and promised to bring to book the driver of the vehicle that caused the avoidable blood-shedding.
