Cargo agents frown at lack of cooperation from MMA2 managers

Management of the Murtala Mohammed Airport Terminal Two, MMA2, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, BASL, has been called upon to give more attention to data, safety and security at the cargo shed in the terminal.

According to the Chairman, Domestic Airports Cargo Agents Association, DACAA, Mr Monday Subair, he lamented that the MMA2 cargo shed had become an all-comers affair and called on the management, BASL to change its approach by working more harmoniously with the cargo agents to further monitor and if possible, regulate activities at the cargo shed.

Subair, who was speaking during a courtesy visit by the Executive Council Members of the League of Airports And Aviation Correspondents, LAAC, affirmed that the terminal had screening machines for screening all cargos that come into the shed, but insisted security had gone beyond screening as a stand-alone.

He said beyond screening machines, a lot still needed to be done to enhance security at the terminal hence, he appealed to MMA2 management to turn over a new leaf by ensuring a harmonious working relationship with the cargo agents through the leadership of the association, DACAA.

DACAA helmsman expressed surprise that despite the volume of business his members generated for the terminal manager, BASL, yet it had not thought it fit to accord the cargo agent the barest minimum of recognition.

According to Subair, another source of concern for DACAA members was the lack of data at the MMA2 cargo shed.

The Chairman of DACAA lamented that the MMA2 personnel in charge of cargo management could not provide answers to several requests for data on activities of his members at the cargo shed such as the volume of cargo generated by each member, rapidity of transactions among others, could not be generated for the association.

Monday Subair said he would want to assume BASL was grappling with a challenge in the cargo shed if responses to those basic requests could still not be provided on demand even after six months, no data and no any form of response to several enquiries, “I foresee some challenges at the cargo shed soon because it is not well-coordinated as it is, ”he said.
