Nigerians at US airport being profile to check-in
The Federal Government of Nigeria, FGN, has succeeded in evacuating another 289 more Nigerians stranded in the United States due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pestilence that caught the world by storm and compelled most sovereign states hit by the plague to close their borders.
The evacuation business was again bagged by Ethiopian Airlines plane which conveyed the evacuees from New Jersey on Tuesday night, and landed in Abuja on Wednesday afternoon.
This flight made it the fourth evacuation flight from the US. It also brought the total number of stranded Nigerians so far repatriated by the Federal Government from the U.S. to 1,095.
However, according to the Consul General of Nigeria in New York, Mr Benaoyagha Okoyen, at the embarkation point in New Jersy, two families of seven were dropped from the flight.
Okoyen explained that the seven souls were denied boarding for failing to present COVID-19 test result, which is a key requirement for the flight.
The evacuees were stranded after Nigeria shut its borders against the U.S. in March to check the spread of the coronavirus.
According to the John Hopkins University’s data, the U.S. is currently the epicentre of the pandemic with 4.3 million confirmed cases and 149,256 deaths as of Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has approved two more evacuation flights, scheduled to depart from Texas and New Jersey by tomorrow, Friday, 31st July and 7th August respectively.
