DEMOLITION OF OLD COSTAIN BRIDGE BEGINS TOMORROW, AS JONATHAN COKER ROAD SHUTS DOWN FOR INSTALLATION OF LEVEL CROSSING RUBBER PANELS
2 min readThe Lagos state government will tomorrow, Saturday, 8th February 2020, from 8 pm to 6 am, Sunday, 9th February, shut down Jonathan Coker axis for the installation of Level Crossing Rubber Panels, to facilitate the extension of the modern gauge rail tracks to the flagship of seaports in Nigeria, the Apapa port.
According to the statement by the Lagos state ministry of transportation as released by the state’s ministry of information and strategy, the Construction Company, China Civil Engineering Construction Company, CCECC, Nigeria Limited, would also commence demolition of parts of the existing old bridge and the hoisting of the beams of the new Costain bridge.
The statement said alternative routes have been provided for road users to utilize for the construction work to be unhindered. It said, motorists, plying Jonathan Coker axis will be diverted to Ashade underpass, Adejobi axis of Agege Motor Road and Toyin Crossing, to ensure that commuters reach their various destinations with minimum discomfort.
While motorists inbound Costain the statement further said, “will be diverted temporarily to the new bridge on the left-hand side, to free the old bridge of traffic”.
However, road users have been advised to comply with the Traffic directions to minimize inconvenience in movement as the closure is slated at this time, to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted flow of work on the rail tracks and smooth unhindered traffic flow for the commuters
The statement further highlighted the appeal of Lagos State Government to residents of the State, especially commuters and drivers that ply these corridors to bear the pains, as the project is aimed at achieving a seamless multimodal transport system which will be of great good to the greatest number of the populace.
