The bench trial in the charges against former United States President, Donald Trump, will continue in Manhattan today, against all subtle efforts including a failed appeal, to thwart the trial by the defense lawyers.

With the legal tussle which is akin to a game of chess, Donald Trump is precariously perched on the throes of the judicial pronouncement by the state’s intermediate appellate court, which cleared the way for Judge Arthur Engoron, who gave the ruling last Tuesday, to preside over a non-jury trial starting Monday 2nd October 2023, in a civil lawsuit.

Bench trial means the case will be decided not by a jury but by Judge Engoron, who is presiding over the trial. He has said it could take as long as three months to hear the case.

By the mode of today’s trial as enunciated by the legal wizard and an astute amazon in the exchange of fierce legal salvos in the temple of justice, the New York Attorney General, Letitia James, will be bringing the defendants in the dock namely, Mr. Trump, and his three adult children; two sons, Eric and Don Jr, and a daughter, Ivanka. They would most likely be paraded as witnesses in the case.

The appeal against last Tuesday’s ruling by Judge Engoron who upheld that Mr. Trump had misrepresented his wealth by hundreds of millions of dollars, did not succeed last Thursday, when it was entertained.

Failure of that appeal paved the way for today’s progress in the trial of other six charges against fraudulent business dealings by Mr. Trump, and his three adult children.

The trial is also expected to determine the consequences when guilt is established in committing such social and economic fraud.

Recall that after the ruling on Tuesday, Donald Trump had made caustic remarks on Wednesday, and frowned at the prompt trial of the charges.

Trump through his Truth social platform said, “In New York, these cases take many years to get to trial,” he wrote.

He further lamented, “My Political Witch Hunt case is actually scheduled to start on Monday. Nobody can believe it. This is a ‘Railroading’ job, pushed hard by the Radical Left DOJ for purposing Election Interference. A very SAD time for New York State, and America!”

** Ms. James alleged Mr. Trump issued these false records to get better terms on loans and insurance deals and to pay less tax.

** Justice Engoron’s ruling severely limits Mr. Trump’s ability to conduct business in New York, where he launched his real estate empire.

** By Engoron’s ruling, D. J. Trump Organizations could be compelled to abdicate control of their assets/estates to a court-appointed receiver/manager, or ultimately have to sell some.

** Justice Engoron ruled that, Mr. Trump overvalued his Mar-a-Lago, Florida property by 2,300% and claimed his penthouse at Trump Tower in New York was three times its actual size.

** Other legal upheaval the former US President has to resolve in the court, includes criminal charges over election interference and handling of classified documents.
