Former Director General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Engr Akin Olateru, who is currently the substantive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Omni-Blu Aviation Ltd, OBA, has bagged the Air Transport Quarterly Magazine “Lifetime Achievement Award ” for 2024.
He was among industry prominent personalities that were honoured at the 4th Air Transport Quarterly Magazine Industry Awards held in Lagos.
This prestigious Award is a tribute to Engr. Olateru’s exceptional leadership, vision, and contributions to the field of aviation safety. As a renowned expert in aviation safety, Engr. Olateru has left an indelible mark on the industry, inspiring generations of aviation professionals.
One of Engr. Olateru’s most significant achievements is overseeing the metamorphosis of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), a multi-disciplinary agency.
This transformation has expanded the agency’s mandate to investigate safety occurrences in the maritime, rail, and road transportation modes, in addition to aviation.

Akin Olateru, is a multi-talented, globally recognized resourceful Aviation professional with vast Air Transport management expertise at operational, senior management, and Boardroom levels across the global aviation industry including the United Kingdom, Europe and Nigeria. spanning over 35 years.
An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer with Nigerian, UK and USA licenses, Mr. Olateru holds an M.Sc. in Air Transport Management from City University, London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, UK; Fellow United Kingdom Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Fellow Nigerian Society of Engineers and a member of the prestigious Chatham House, UK.
He has attended several leadership/management courses in top-tier institutions including London School of Economics, and the prestigious Harvard Business School Boston, USA where he bagged the Certificate of Management Excellence (CME).
Olateru in his entrepreneurial pursuit founded Omni-Blu Aviation Limited in 2013: a private commercial airline in Nigeria, with intent on exploiting untapped areas of bourgeoning opportunities in the aviation sector that were otherwise not given due attention.
Together with his team, he has since grown the business into a multi-million-dollar organization serving discerning clients, institutions, and businesses with ‘beyond first class’ air transportation and business aviation services, across multiple sectors.
