Two officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service who extorted eight thousand naira (N8,000.00k) from a 14-year-old passenger at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos, have been banned from all airports in Nigeria.

Consequently, the officers were also made to refund the exact amount collected from the passenger.
A media statement from FAAN management said a tweet by the mother of the minor passenger on 19th February, prompted the airport management to launch a Hitech investigation on the allegation.

The statement said a team of crack airport security personnel were charged with the task of unravelling the truth about the purported extortion.

In the media statement signed by Mrs Faithful A. Hope-Ivbaze, Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs said, “upon investigation, they found the allegation to be true, as the officers involved were identified with the help of footages on our CCTV facility, and the cooperation from the Nigerian Immigration Service”, her statement said.

Apart from the refund of the money extorted, the On Duty Cards of the guilty immigration officers “were also withdrawn permanently, and they have been banned from working in any Nigerian airport, to serve as a deterrent to others”, the statement concluded
