General Muhammadu Buhari, RTD, President, Federal Republic of Nigeria

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari Rtd, has declared Zamfara State, a no-fly-zone.

The National Security Adviser, (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd), disclosed this to State House Correspondents at the end of the National Security Council meeting, held in the State House on Tuesday.

General Monguno added that President Buhari had also approved a ban on all mining activities in Zamfara state with the view to curbing the rising rate of insecurity.

According to Monguno, the decision was one of the many strategies of Mr President to douse tension and restore order in all parts of the country.

Monguno announced that the intelligence and security communities have been mandated to go after all non-state actors, whose activities have been fueling chaos, to be arrested and accordingly made to face prosecution.

He announced to all the journalists present at the briefing that President Buhari had charged the new service chiefs to reclaim all areas under the control of bandits, insurgents and kidnappers, and all others involved in criminal activities across the country.

The Security Adviser enthused, “We are not going to be blackmailed. The government has the responsibility to assert its will. Citizens can reside wherever they want to reside. Anybody who is a criminal should be brought to book”.

General Monguno further said, “the president has also warned against ethnic profiling. We have enough of chaos. Any individual that thinks he can cause disunity should have a rethink,” he said

Keen observers of how security has become a big challenge believed the no-fly-zone declared was General Buhari’s response to recent security challenges erupting from Zamfara state and many other states in the country
