A foremost travel medicine Consultant engaged in the screening of numerous travellers on behalf of various Embassies in Nigeria, Dr Adetokunbo Alakija, has died.

Until his death, Dr Adetokunbo Alakija was the Board Chairman of Lagos State Health Management Agency LASHMA. He was also the Medical Director, Q-Life Family Clinic and a foremost travel medicine Consultant.

The General Manager, LASHMA, Dr Emmanuella Zamba, In a condolence message, said that “the late Chairman will be greatly missed for his good leadership traits, great contributions towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), fatherly love to the LASHMA family, philanthropic efforts and prompt response to issues, especially staff welfare”.

She also acknowledged Dr Alakija’s support for the realization of the mandate of the Agency, praying that the Lord Almighty will grant his immediate family as well as the Health family in Lagos State the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Dr Zamba said: “Throughout his lifetime, he was passionate about the provision of quality healthcare and raising the bar in health services at LASHMA and in Nigeria to globally acceptable standards”.

In recognition of his excellence in the field of travel medicine, he was awarded a Certificate in Travel Health (CTH) by the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM). He was also a Trustee of the Nigerian Society of Travel Medicine (NSTM).
