Immense Value of “Pilots on the Ground” Extolls, Urge Never to Fall Below Expectation

Flight Dispatchers (often called “Pilots on the Ground” in industry parlance), the world over, have been reminded of the immense importance of their role in safe and economic flight operations and that in their absence, there can never be flight operations as neither take off nor landing will ever be attainable.
An industry veteran and scholar in the art and science of Flight Dispatching, Mrs. Victoria Adegbe, who is the Proprietor/Accountable Manager, at Aviatrix Hub Training Institute, made the disclosure during the graduation ceremony for the first batch of Flight Dispatchers from the Aviation Training Organization, ATO, over the weekend.
Adegbe disclosed that the first batch of graduates had completed an intensive six weeks of training for Basic and another six weeks for Advanced Flight Dispatch training.
The thirteen pioneer students who were deemed fit for the institute’s inaugural convocation which took place in Lagos and will later hold in Enugu were, for Lagos; Lydia Olodun, Jude Olayiwola, Angela Chukwu, and Afoma Onyechi,
The successful candidates who would take part in the maiden graduation in Enugu are, Ibanga Matthew, Ibrahim Nathaniel, Orungbami Shola, Ibeabuchi Princewill, Aizenabor Benedicta, Ukpong Sunday, Anyanwu Henry, Chukwuka Godsglory and Ezenwa Anita.
Mrs. Adegbe urged the graduands to, at all times be the mirror reflecting the creed of their job, and the importance of the duty they render as utmost concentration and concise information dissemination at the right time is of ultra-high premium in the discharge of the task of a flight dispatcher.
The Chairman of the convocation event at the Lagos facility, Taiwo Raji, who was the first national President, of the Flight Dispatchers Association of Nigeria, (FLIDAN), urged the students to be of good conduct.
Comrade Raji urged the young graduates to immediately begin nursing how in actual terms they will start off as “work creators and not job seekers”.
Raji enjoined the new graduates to immediately fired their imagination on how they could join hands to “fix the challenges and not create more challenges, but turn opportunities to rewarding prospects and never to forget “to always be good ambassadors of your family and the institute,” he advised.
The President of Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), comrade Illitrus Amadi, who was ably represented by the Assistant Secretary General, Comrade Frances Akinjole, commended the determination of the Accountable Manager /CEO of the ATO, Mrs. Victoria Adegbe, for starting on a very good footing.
Akinjole also expressed optimism that the training institute will help in building the capacity of young and new entrants into the aviation value chain in Nigeria.
On his part, the Editorial Page Editor, of the Nation newspaper, Mr. Sanya Oni, encouraged the graduates to be the spark of light in their little corner as they journey into the labour market.
For the Accountable Manager, Sanya said Victoria Adegbe’s trajectory is without an iota of doubt, upwardly mobile, and aiming for the skies. He noted that with Adegbe’s growth mindset, there is no option for her but to exceedingly succeed.
Present at the occasion were the General Manager, of Aeronautic Information Service (AIS), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Kabir Gusau, the Chief Inspector /Maintenance Safety, and Aircraft Maintenance Engr. Sherry Kyari, members of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC), led by its Chairman, Olusegun Koiki, and representatives from Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and her former students.
Aviatrix is an NCAA-certified Aviation Training Organization (ATO) and it commenced operations with the enrollments of both Basic and Advanced Flight Dispatcher courses a few months ago.
The school ensures both theory and sufficient practical classes for the students.
