Lagos Govt. Rev up Road Reconstruction, Drainage Desilting, to Tame Flooding, Improve Travel Time

As the impact of the rains is being felt on drainages and erosion of asphalt on some roads, the Lagos State Government has begun desilting of drainages and reconstructing failed portions of the road with the view to making commuting pleasurable for all classes of the citizenry.
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, made it known at a media parley.
She said some roads needing urgent attention in some local governments and local council development areas have been identified and an action plan had been concluded for all of them.
Engr Adeyoye said, roads in “inner streets and critical road networks have been identified and will be fixed in order to make every part of Lagos motorable and liveable for the people”.
She said that the Lagos State Public Works Corporation, LSPWC, had been saddled with fixing inner roads and critical road networks in most of the local governments and local council development areas in the state.
She further explained that “some major roads like Ijede and Oba Sekumade in Ikorodu are being rebuilt to prevent integrity issues on the infrastructure, which deteriorated in the past because fundamental issues were not addressed”.
The Special Adviser on Works said the government had embarked on urban regeneration with the reconstruction of good road networks to address areas that are already in a deplorable manner thus improving connectivity among inner streets and providing link roads to some major communities.
On the Lekki-Epe expressway, she said the government was giving it drastic attention because of the industrial status of the area which required smooth commuting of various industrial goods to and from the free trade zone in that axis.
Mrs Adeyoye said desilting drainages had been stepped up to make commuting easier and address issues causing flooding that had plagued residents since the rains started.
She however mentioned some roads ready for commissioning such as Isuti and Captain Davies roads in the Alimosho area. While work she said, was also in progress at Akesan-Badore road.
