The electronic call-up system for trucks and other articulated vehicles along the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone will flag off on Monday, 23rd September 2024.
A media statement from the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation said “In readiness for effective traffic management, operational efficiency, and road safety for the Lekki-Epe E-Call Up System set to commence by 23rd of this month, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has again embarked on an assessment of its traffic management plan”.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who led the inspection sadly observed some obstinate drivers who defiantly refused to make use of the various loading bay but parked their trucks along the roadway flagrantly against the letters and the spirit of the reformed public transportation law of Lagos State.
Osiyemi noted that since there was a law guiding transportation activities in Lagos state, those who chose to do their wishes should be prepared for the consequence of undermining the state government.
The Commissioner however stated that the E-Call Up System, once operational, will tackle congestion and streamline the movement of goods and services within the Lekki-Epe corridor by efficiently allocating resources and minimising waiting times for trucks.
Explaining the level of Stakeholder engagement in alignment with the E-Call Up commencement date and enforcement plan, Mr Osiyemi disclosed that the State Government, through the Ministry of Transportation, had held several discussions on the importance of the E-Call Up system and why it is the best solution for the corridor.
Also on the tour, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Mr Olawale Musa, stated that the E-Call Up system could not have come at a better time, especially with the management of a large number of trucks loading PMS from the Dangote Refinery.
He commended the Government’s pro-activeness in introducing the E-Call Up plan to forestall traffic issues in the area.
The tour team included other top management members of the Ministry, such as the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, and the Director, Transport Operations, Engr. Olasunkanmi Ojowuro, also visited the LASTMA Impound Yard, which can currently accommodate over 200 trucks, with a maximum capacity of over 1,000 Trucks.
Other locations visited included the Naval Operating Base.
