Lagos is anxious to receive NCAA inspectors, ready to flag off construction of a smart aerodrome

The Lagos state government is fully ready to receive inspectors from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, to conduct inspection both on the architectural frame work and on the physical features, the atmospheric behavioral pattern, the land topography, and wind movement all around the land mass designated for the Ibeju-Lekki International Airport, on Lekki-Epe Express Road.
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu hinted at the Inspectors’ visit over the weekend during his visit to Alaro City on Saturday.
Sanwo-Olu, while on the visit, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deliver to the airport and the Green Line rail mass transit designed to connect the Lekki-Epe axis to the island and the rest of Lagos state.
He said the favourable outcome of the inspection by the NCAA team later this week, would propel the project to its next level, which is the construction of the aerodrome with adequate facilities imperative of a terminal to be designated international in its absolute sense of the nomenclature.
Recall that the state government had last month, February 2025, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, with the international construction company, Summa Group, which would be building an architectural master piece of a modern, state of the art terminal.
The 21st century features the entire aerodrome would be equipped the Governor noted would be such to be delivered not for Lagosians or Nigerians usage alone, but also for the international communities in search of business and leisure, that are abound in Nigeria.
Earlier, Governor Sanwo-Olu had explained that the Lekki International Airport is a key component of Lagos State’s long-term infrastructure strategy, aimed at driving investment and economic growth in the Lekki peninsula.
The state government had repeatedly announced that the airport is conceived to provide a critical complement to the Lekki Free Trade Zone and Lekki Deep Sea Port.
Statements especially from Governor Sanwo-Olu X handle had severally enunciated that the airport is expected to improve connectivity, attract foreign investment, and ease pressure from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, already struggling for modernization but the Lekki-Epe International Airport shall provide a masterful complement and succeed in further positioning Lagos as a global business hub.
IBEJU-LEKKI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT EMERGING PROFILE
*** The airport will be located on 3,500 hectares of land mass.
*** The government in her master plan is to construct a 4.5 kilometers long runway.
*** The site for the construction of a world class airport is located on the Ibeju-Lekki corridor, near the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
*** The airport on completion will enjoy proximity with the Lekki Free Trade Zone, LFTZ. Its distance to the LFTZ is about 10 kilometers.
*** The airport infrastructure is designed to accommodate wide body aircraft such as the likes of the Airbus A380.
*** The smart terminal on completion is expected to handle five million passengers per year.
*** To be embedded in the infrastructure is the prospect of expansion in consonance with the pace of social and economic growth in the state.
*** The state government’s avowed intention is to develop, and construct a state-of-the-art airport under a public private partnership (PPP) model.
*** The Lagos State Government in February 2025 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Summa Group for the airport’s construction.
*** Whenever the groundbreaking event occurs, construction is expected to be completed in ten (10) months.
