Lagos light rail project to cause 92 days diversion at Yaba axis

Beginning from the first day of October, (1st October 2021), motorists and commuters whose commercial and social activities compel them to ply Yaba, will have to bear with the diversion for ninety-two days, (92 Days) which would end on the first day of the new year, 1st January 2022.

A statement from the state government and signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladehinde, said the diversion had become imperative so as to deliver on the electoral promise of given Lagosians a modern light train service.

The statement explained that to realise the delivery of the first phase of the construction of the Redline covering Oyingbo to Agbado, motorists heading to Muritala Mohammed way from Western Avenue have been advised to use Empire Road at Jibowu while Traffic circulating Muritala Mohammed Way and Yaba Bound will be diverted to Empire Road to access Western Avenue.

The statement advises further that, motorists on Herbert Macaulay Way, can also use Empire Road to connect Western Avenue to reach their desired destinations.

The Commissioner assured that the site will be cordoned off for the safety of the citizenry, adding that dedicated emergency vehicles will be available to tow faulty and immobilized vehicles away from along the axis.

He also stated that signages will be placed on the access roads with traffic officers from Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, on hand to manage traffic flow and minimize inconveniences.

The State Government reiterated its continuous commitment to the provision of transport infrastructure within the metropolis.

On completion, the Multi-Modal Transportation System of the State Government will boost the economic prowess of the citizenry and make of ease of connectivity to all nooks and crannies of the state of aquatic splendour.
