Vehicles impeding traffic impounded on the Berger bridge

Owners/drivers of all the vehicles impeding traffic on the Berger bridge impounded in a sting-like operation of the joint task force on Wednesday, will be tried in consonance with the Lagos state traffic law of 2018, and as amended.

A media statement by the Ministry of Transport said the enforcement drive was a sequel to the series of warnings against using the highway as an unauthorized garage/park.

The statement noted that the persistent disdain for the warnings had enabled the drivers to turn a fraction of the bridge into a point of permanent gridlock thus impeding smooth vehicular movement.

Hence, the operatives of the Ministry of Transportation, in collaboration with the Lagos State TASKFORCE, conducted an enforcement exercise against indiscriminately parked vehicles along the corridor and those found culpable were impounded.

Speaking on the enforcement drive and its consequence, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the State Government will not tolerate disregard of the state traffic laws.

Osiyemi emphasized that, the Lagos State Traffic Laws will continue to be strictly enforced, and compliance is expected by all road users across the metropolis.

He further stated that all apprehended bus drivers and impounded vehicles will face penalties in accordance with the 2018 State Traffic Law as amended.

Additionally, the Commissioner assured that the sting actn will be randomly conducted and anyone caught in the act will contend with the full wrath of the law.

He said those notorious spots will be consistently monitored for compliance to traffic regulations and culprits will be subjected to the rule wrath of the law in order to serve as a deterrent to others.

Osiyemi assured that the State Government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring orderliness on Lagos roads and no stone will be left unturned to achieve sanity on the roads.
