LASDRI charges drivers to place a high premium on road safety to make more profit

The Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, LASDRI, has taken its onsite one-day refresher course to the ECOMOG Motor Park, Mile 2, which operates under the auspices of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.
Welcoming the 85 participants who attended the training, LASDRI General Manager, Mrs Afusat Tiamiyu, commended them for sacrificing their tight schedule to acquire education which will expose them to new skills and current industry positions in the trade they ply to care for themselves and their families.
The institute’s Deputy Director, Engineer Kayode Oladosu, who addressed participants on behalf of the GM said LASDRI management was mindful of the challenge of NURTW members to sacrifice the day’s revenue under the present economic situation for anything hence, the resolve to bring the training to their unit.
Participants were reminded of how paramount safety is when behind the wheels because he who arrives safely has live and will continue to be of relevance to his family and friends.
The GM also noted that the life of passengers that daily commute in public vehicles was also precious, taken cognizance of dependent relatives being sustained by just one family member commuting to eke out a living..
She drove home the point beyond any ambiguity that nothing will be too small or too big to enhance the safety of all road users.
They were told the annual recertification was the position of the law in Lagos State for all professional drivers who make a living from operating any type of commercial vehicle freighting either passenger or cargo.
LASDRI helmswoman explained that if the majority of drivers conform to road traffic regulations, abide by road safety rules, travel time in the metropolis will surely improve which will translate to more trips and more profit.
Representative of the NURTW branch ‘C’ leadership, Amuwo Odofin, Assistant Branch Secretary, Comrade Adewale Adeyemi, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for the gesture which helped them hone their driving skills annually.
He promised that NURTW members in Lagos state will continue to cooperate with the state government in all its numerous ways of improving public transportation in Lagos State.
