The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has announced that retrieval of the PSP TRUCK that plunged into the Lagos Lagoon from the third mainland bridge inward Iyana-Oworonshoki, on Tuesday, 18th October 2022, will begin by 2 pm on Sunday, 23rd October 2022.
According to the media statement by LASEMA, the agency’s marine divers rescued the two occupants of the waste compactor alive after the truck veered off the bridge as a result of a burst tire.
The statement says the recovery of the ill-fated truck commenced the following morning when visibility got blurred as the dusk gradually set in, on the day of the crash.
It states further that since the agency’s operatives had located the truck, its retrieval using the agency’s heavy-duty equipment is now scheduled for Sunday 23rd October 2022.
In the same vein, a statement from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, says road diversion on the affected part of the bridge will be in force from 1.00 PM, today, Sunday, 23rd October 2022.
The media statement by LASTMA informed that “while the recovery operation is ongoing, there will be a road closure and traffic diversion on the 3rd Mainland Bridge for motorists moving from Lagos Island to connect Mainland through Iyana Oworonshoki”.
The diversion arrangement LASTMA media statement explained thus, “In order to avoid delay and inconvenience during the recovery period, the following alternative routes are advised for motorists coming from Lagos Island and Mainland (Ebute-Metta) towards Iyana Oworonshoki on the 3rd Mainland Bridge:
(1)* From Victoria Island/Ikoyi/ Lagos Island, use Carter Bridge to:
a) Ijora Olopa (by LAWMA Headquarters) to Eko Bridge to Funsho Williams Avenue (old Western Avenue) to Dorman-Long Bridge to Ikorodu Road through Fadeyi and connect desired destinations.
b) Carter Bridge to Iddo to Oyingbo to Herbert Macaulay Way to Jibowu to Ikorodu Road and connect desired destinations.
(2)* From Victoria Island/ Ikoyi/ Lagos Island; to Mainland (Ebute-Metta);
You may use the Adekunla interchange to Herbert Macaulay Way to connect desired destinations
Please be aware that motorists moving from the Mainland inward to Lagos Island are not affected by this recovery exercise on the 3rd Mainland Bridge.
While seeking the cooperation and support of all road users/motorists, security and traffic management personnel will be deployed to all the alternative routes to ensure the free flow of traffic, safety, and security of all road users.
