Leaders on Oversight Over Aviation in Africa, India Ocean, Converge in Abuja

The leadership of air transport regulatory authorities in the African-Indian Ocean (AFI) the Region Member States, other representatives and experts from International/ Regional Organizations will this morning flag off a week-long parley in Abuja, Nigeria.
A media statement by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, said the conference will avail Directors-General of Civil Aviation Authorities in the region the opportunity to brainstorm and chart a course aimed at further developing the appropriate strategies and providing the necessary actions to support the enhancement of the aviation system in Africa.
The AFI Regional Aviation Week is jointly put together by Nigeria’s Ministry of Aviation, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, and the International Civil Aviation Organization, Montreal Canada.
Participants expected at the exclusively technical talk shop include Aviation Safety and Security Representatives, Aviation Experts of African-Indian Ocean (AFI) the Region Member States, and other Representatives and experts from International/ Regional Organizations.
Expected at the august occasion is the President of Council, International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO, His Excellency Salvatore Sciacchitano, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, Director General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Capt Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, the President and Secretary-General, African Civil Aviation Commission, AFCAC, Air Cdre Kwame Mamphey and Ms Iyabo O. Sosina among others,
A media statement from NCAA and signed by the General Manager, Public Relations, Mr Sam Adurogboye, said “attendance of this event will avail Directors-General of Civil Aviation Authorities the opportunity to brainstorm and chart a course aimed at further developing the appropriate strategies and providing the necessary actions to support the enhancement of the aviation system in Africa”, he said.
The statement said “this year’s AFI week will engage all participants in discussing important issues like the progress made in implementing the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) global and regional Plan, enhancement of aviation performance in all ICAO strategic objectives, key priorities for the coming years, COVID-19 aviation recovery and building back better and the outcome of the ICAO High-Level Conference on COVID – 19 (HLCC) 2021 amongst others.
According to Sam Adurogboye, “the event will also cover several important meetings including:
The Ninth (9) Meeting of the AFI Directors-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA/9).
The Twenty-Fifth (25) Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Comprehensive Regional Implementation Plan for Aviation Safety in Africa (AFI Plan).
The Eleventh (11) Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Comprehensive Regional Implementation Plan for Aviation Security and Facilitation in Africa (AFI SECFAL Plan). And;-

Our correspondent reports that dignitaries were seen over the weekend arriving at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, and checking into the Transcorp Hotel, Abuja, the venue of the event which will end on Friday, 20th May 2022.
