MVAA collaborates with Lagos Police Command on enforcement of TVT

Those whose circumstances may compel them to use their unregistered vehicles on the roads in Lagos State have been assured of the availability of Temporary Vehicle Tag, TVT, in sufficient numbers and the Lagos State Police Command is fully aware of this.
The Partnership entered with the state Police Command will help in the adequate enforcement of the TVT usage and help the Police to quickly nip in the bud, the usual lie by vehicle owners or their agents that TVT is exhausted or unavailable will lose value, and fall flat, as the Police Officers are fully in the picture about the adequate stock of the tag, and that issuance of the TVT is also done instantly on-demand and without an iota of delay.
Facilitating the collaboration with the Police on behalf of the state government is the General Manager, Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, MVAA, Mrs ‘Lape Kilanko.
To that end, the General Manager, speaking after a meeting with the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Akeem Odumosu, at Ikeja, expressed gratitude for the Command’s cooperation which had made adequate officers available for the purpose of enforcing the usage of TVT on Lagos roads, by all those driving vehicles yet to be registered.
She said the Lagos State Government placed a very high premium on accurate data to enable it to plan for social and economic development hence, the need to capture the movement of unregistered vehicles which will help in determining the vehicular density in the state, among others.
The Temporary Vehicle Tag, TVT, she said will be made available at the entry points to Lagos state, be it road or water, with the view to capture vehicles coming into Lagos or passing through Lagos state to other states in the federation and not fully registered
Kilanko explained that as the name implies, the TVT, is a temporary tag given before proper vehicle registration is done, and it’s meant to protect vehicle owners in case the unexpected happens, while the official record with the government could provide a fall back for the owners. It will also help the Agency to determine the number of vehicles coming into the State at any point in time”, Kilanko said.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Akeem Odumosu, who was ably represented by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Bassey Ewah, described the meeting with the GM, MVAA as fruitful.
He said the command had been adequately briefed and fully ready to swing into action with the view to assisting the state government in achieving its objectives in regards to the TVT policy.
The Police Chieftain lauded the safety and security elements in the TVT, which he noted should compel vehicle owners to voluntarily comply for the safety of their investments.
Odumosu assured that officers at the ports will carry out their duties without fear or favour as TVT enforcement will be total.
