NAMA To Celebrate An Amazing Milestone In July

It is rightly the norm that members of the fourth estate of the realm are the ears and eyes of the populace, members are revered as those who more often pen the first rough draft of history hence, the leadership of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, has extends her hands of fellowship to the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondents-Nigeria, LAAC-N, to contribute its quota in making the forthcoming 25th anniversary an epoch event.
Alhaji Abdulahi Musa, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of NAMA, conveyed the decision of the management to the leadership of LAAC-N, for a mutually beneficial relationship in all facets of media activities before, during and after the silver anniversary.
While speaking during a courtesy visit in Lagos, Musa said the three days celebration scheduled for between the 21st and 23rd of July, 2024 in Abuja, is loaded with programs that will succinctly capture all NAMA stands for in the world of air safety.
Musa said the anniversary is tagged “NAMA @ 25.” It will focus on NAMA’s odyssey since inception in 1999 to date. The event will also take cognizance of the agency’s commitment over the years to promoting and enhancing the safety of air navigation and surveillance in Nigeria, he reiterated.
He explained further a few aspects of the 25th anniversary program that will be impacted. “We intend to showcase several milestones recorded by the agency across different administrations in the aspect of boosting and upgrading Air Traffic Management, Communication Navigation and Surveillance, CNS, and the total compliance with global best practices as recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Montreal, Canada,” Musa said.
Abdulahi Musa further enthused, “the presence and participation of aviation journalists who have been reporting the agency’s giant strides over the years would be critical to the success of the event as it would further enrich the discussions and analyses, given that most of the aviation correspondents would be reporting while banking on their wealth of experience garnered over the years.”
Earlier in his address, the chairman of LAAC, Suleiman Idris, noted that his association has had a robust working relationship with NAMA since its inception.
Idris drew the attention of the Director to some of the challenges affecting members of the league in the discharge of their duties like epileptic power supply at the LAAC secretariat in Lagos.
The high point of the occasion was the conferment of the position of Patron of the League on the NAMA director, Abdulahi Musa.
THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NAMA
The Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, was Established via Act. No. 48 of 1999 as an agency of the federal government.
NAMA is saddled with the statutory responsibility of providing air navigation services over the national boundaries of Nigeria which include the airspace over its territorial waters.
The forthcoming 25th anniversary celebrations will feature paper presentations, lectures and symposia on the future of NAMA in the next 25 years and beyond, as well as awards presentations to aviation stakeholders who have positively impacted the agency since its inception.
