CAA Workers Toil for Nigeria to Earn FAA CAT-1: says Dr Olusegun Harold Demuren

The entire workforce in the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has been described as heroes and heroines for the feat the nation’s aviation attained about 14 years a go, when Nigeria earned the Category One, CAT-1, certification from the Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, of the United States of America, USA.
Dr Olusegun Harold Demuren, a former Director General of NCAA who superintended over the execution of the entire processes, procedures and major physical infrastructure remodeling, to synchronise with the expectations of the FAA inspectors, made the statement at the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of NCAA in Abuja.
Dr Demuren, an aeronautic engineer who spoke on behalf of the fourteen (14) distinguished Directors bestowed the award of PIONEERS OF SUPERIORITY VISIONARY leadership said the award was not for an individual to run home with but would be dedicated to the entire workforce of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
According to the organizing committee of the Silver Jubilee anniversary of NCAA, the award was to recognize and appreciate superior leadership exercised in the course of executing various projects and programs almost simultaneously towards demonstration of competencies in nearly all the value chain of air transport.
Those in this category the committee described as MEMBERS OF THE CAT 1 TEAM THAT GOT NCAA NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL HONOURS.
Hence, Dr Demuren, a septuagenarian who was the commander in the “cockpit” during the amazing but tortuous “flight” (task) to clinch FAA Cat-1, vouched for all the manpower that the authority has in its employment.
Demuren said all the Nigeria CAA staff were dependable and exhibited an ultra-high sense of responsibility in all the tasks assigned as individuals and as a group or department.
He strongly recommended the entire work force at NCAA, to both the Minister of Aviation And Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, and especially to the brand new Director General of NCAA, Capt Chris Ona Najomo.
Dr Demuren, the author and protagonist of the obiter dictum, “you cannot be wrong supporting your own” said during the frenetic race to meet the deadline while speedily closing identified gaps, all the staff proved themselves loyal, reliable and dedicated to the goal being pursued.
Olusegun Harold Demuren said due to the differences in the timing belt between the US and Nigeria, FAA staff often would reach him at odd hours to update him on the FAA outlook on some issues. He said he would immediately prompt the concerned officer of the task required in respect of the update received, no matter the time of the night, be it 2 am.
He however added that often times, the time for him to pass the information could be very awkward as much as 2 am, calling a young wife beside her husband and passing directives to her.
Dr Demuren who held sway at that time in NCAA said in all of those times no excuse of ny sort from anyone. No one switched off his or her phone to plead alibi the following day.
By the above fact, Dr Demuren also known as Baba Aladura, a slang derived from the name of the organization where he worships, said the award was dedicated to all the staff for their cooperation and steadfastness.
To the brand new DG, Capt Chris Najomo, Dr Demuren advised that training and retraining should not experience any iota of hindrance.
Demuren said exposure to modern training would enable the inspectors to be synced to the modern trends in the industry hence, they would be better equipped to exercise oversight in a way that the industry would become robust and more prosperous.
