Nigerians Travelling to UK, USA, Warn Against Robbers on the Streets, in Shopping Malls

The Federal Government has called on Nigerians planning to travel to Europe or the Americas, especially the United States of America, USA, and the United Kingdom, UK, to be twice as careful with their precious personal belongings such as international passports, and cash among other valuables.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, offered advice at the 5th edition of President Muhammadu Buhari, PMB, Administration’s Scorecard (2015-2023) Series, in Abuja.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed said: “It has come to the attention of the government that Nigerian travelers to the United States and some countries in Europe are having their belongings, especially money and international passports stolen at a very high rate”.
He said the most recent victims of this daylight robbery were travelers to the UK, most of whom were dispossessed of their belongings at highbrow shops, particularly in the high-end street of Oxford.
Mohammed enthused that the fact of these ugly incidents had compelled the FG to “advise Nigerians traveling to Europe and the United States to take extra precautions to avoid being dispossessed of their valuables”.
He explained further on the nature of the warning, “this is not your typical travel advisory. Issuing such is the prerogative of our embassies/high commissions as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”.
Mohammed, therefore, explained the general warning was “merely a piece of advice to Nigerians who may be visiting the affected parts of the world.”
He averred that the essence of the warning is to enable an informed traveler to be armed by staying alert to the threat and developing strategies to avert any sly approach so as not to be caught unaware. To be forewarned is to be forearmed, he emphasized.
