Mr. Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State
Ogun State Government has concluded plans to develop an economically viable aerotropolis, that’s a subregion within the state which, will be provided with infrastructure, land use, and economy that will all be centred on an airport to move essentially, agricultural cargoes and passengers.
The State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, dropped the hint at a webinar organized by the Nigeria Stock Exchange, with the theme, “privatization in Nigeria and the outlook for Subnational Economic Development”.
The Governor said the State’s Execuitive Council had resolved that a well planned aerotropolis would provide the boost needed by most of the flourishing enterprises in the state to get national and international exposure and possibly provoke the kind of patronage that could earn the enterprises foreign exchange thus furthering enhance the state’s economy.
He further said the airport city shall be situated in the middle of the agro processing zones in the state and partnership from we’ll meaning agro investors locally and internationally would be appreciated.
Dapo Abiodun further said that, in the construction of an airport that would be suitable in enhancing the prompt movement of agro products, the state government would be very much interested in collaboration with private organizations with requisite expertise.
The Governor who himself came into government from the private sector, put the leadership of the Nigerian Stock Exchange on notice that, the state government would be willing to bring the airport city project for listing on the nation’s capital market.
He said when the preliminary aspect of the proposed Ogun State Airport City is completed, the Nigeria Stock Exchange, NSE, would be consulted for advice to ensure the Nigerian investors acquire stake in the noble project.
Abiodun added that the state government had been very prudent the management of the state’s resources hence, the 250 bed hospital constructed by his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the state government was ready to sell or concession to competent organization that could profitable manage the hospital.
The Governor noted that his administration fervent believe in private and public partnership, informed the signing into law, the creation of an agency of government that will determine government businesses deserving of the private sector collaboration to create a win – win situation for both the private sector investor and the government.
He said some of the stranded assets of government would be reappraised by the office for private-public-partnership, PPP, and modality for making them attractive for listing on the nation’s capital market would be explored for a mutually benefitting business decision.
The webinar which was jointly organized with the Governors Forum was chairman by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Governor of Ekiti State, who gave the keynote address.
He said because of the dwindling revenue to the federal government which by extension had adversely affected the states, the States governments were urged to quickly reappraise their enterprises to determine where fund could be saved or convert such assets or equity to capital that could be ploughed to providing critical social and welfare services to the Great majority of the populace.Share
