OKADA BAN: Govt. Inaugurates Anti-Okada Squad for Effective Enforcement

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated an Anti-Okada Squad, which will team up with the Police to enforce the ban on commercial motorcyclists in all parts of the six Local Governments, nine Local Council Development Areas and on all highways, major roads and bridges in the state.
The State’s Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, speaking at the inauguration ceremony said the Special Anti-Okada Squad will be reporting to the Police.
He urged the citizenry to collaborate with the State Government in the effort to combat the Okada menace by bringing to the attention of the state government any nefarious activities by any member of the squad.
Dr Frederic Oladeinde said the state government could be reached through the Ministry of Transportation or through the following help/complaint lines: 09038208154, 09034810153, 09033090826 and 09169655855.
He said such feedback will enable the government to continue fine-tuning its strategies at achieving solid and foolproof methods to further guarantee the safety of lives and properties.
The Commissioner reminded Lagosians of the letters and spirit of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, TSRL, of 2018 as it affects both the rider and the passenger caught flouting the law. He said both persons are culpable before the law.
Oladeinde explained that in accordance with the Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL), 2018, individuals arrested (i.e. riders and passengers) will be made to face the full wrath of the law in line with the provision of Section 46, sub-section 1, 2 & 3 of the Transport Sector Reform Law.
He added that any motorcycle impounded for flouting the transport regulation will be crushed in the public glare.
In his speech, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr Kamar Olowoshago, urged the Anti-Okada personnel to be diligent and honest in the discharge of their duties.
Also at the inauguration was the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Fatai Akinderu later presented the completion of training certificates to the squad.
As a repetition for emphasis, the state government could be reached by all the good citizens in the state of aquatic splendour through the following hotlines, but only for cogent information about the untoward conduct by members of the squad and not frivolous matters.
