The driver of a commercial TOYOTA Sienna bus with registered plate number AKD 944 HN, rammed into a moving and fully loaded tricycle at Ago palace, in the Okota area, and killed the tricycle rider, a pregnant passenger, while the two students involved are in intensive care unit at the hospital.
A media statement by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, said the Sienna driver initially was accosted by LASTMA operatives for driving against the traffic.
He was being accompanied to the LASTMA area office, by the police officer attached to the patrol team, when the driver for God knows why, since a police officer was in the vehicle, made a sudden and reckless diversion into Bayo Oyewale Street, by Ago round-about, where he rammed into a fully loaded tricycle.
The escort Policeman in the interdicted vehicle equally sustained various degrees of injury as a result of the fatal auto crash.
According to the media statement, “irate mob descended on the escort Police Officer but with the timely intervention of a team of Policemen from Ago/Okota/ and Ilasa Police Stations, the police officer was rescued and saved from being lynched.
Also, the LASTMA area office was invaded and valuable items were vandalized including vehicles within the premises.
The management of LASTMA sympathized with the families of the deceased and prayed for the full recovery of the two students in the hospital.
