PBAT APPOINTS DKO AS CEO OF NRC

Dr Kayode Opeifa, DKO, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, MD/CEO, Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, PBAT, has approved the appointment of Dr Kayode Opeifa, DKO, as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, MD/CEO, of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC.

Dr Opeifa’s last port of call was his appointment as the Transport Secretary, TS, for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by President Muhamadu Buhari.

Before his appointment as Transport Secretary during Buhari’s regime, President Buhari included Opeifa in the team to troubleshoot the cause of the perennial gridlock at Apapa and its environs. He was also given the mandate to neutralize the cause and restore traffic flow.

The Presidential Task Team (PTT) to free the Apapa nauseating traffic logjam was chairmanned by the former Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo. At the same time, Dr Kayode Opeifa was appointed as the Vice-Chairman of the task team.

Before his public service in the last decade, Opeifa had served as Special Adviser on transportation when the President was the governor of Lagos state.

During the tenure of barrister Babatunde Raji Fashola as the governor of Lagos state, Dr Kayode Opeifa, served as the transportation commissioner.

During the time he held sway in the transport ministry, masterstrokes of policies were churned out and were clinically executed, which in turn made Lagos state a cynosure of all eyes, especially to other state governments and sovereign states in the ECOWAS region desirous of improved public transportation in their respective states.

By this current appointment, Opeifa succeeds Engr Ben Iloanusi, who was acting Managing Director when the substantive Managing Director, Engr Fidet Okhiria, successfully completed his two terms of four years each on 18th October 2024.

Dr Kayode Opeifa is expected to bring his wealth of experience in public transport management to bear on the nation’s railway network which is just being rebuilt in collaboration with the Chinese.

Opeifa was deeply involved in using prompt and concise information to improve traffic management in Lagos state, which led to the establishment of Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1fm.

Nigerians look forward to innovations in conjunction with the Chinese to revolutionize the nationwide railway network system
