Town Meets The Gown On Blue Career Insight- TTP Perspective

Undergraduates desirous of becoming highly employable immediately after graduation, or nursing the noble ambition to become employer of labour immediately after graduation, have all been given four key virtues to cultivate early before graduation.
Students consumed with such lofty and realizable ambitions have also been encouraged to develop an eagle eye in identifying social and economic challenges and thereafter be engrossed in research towards finding a solution to the challenge.
Mr Jama Onwubuariri, Managing Director, and co-founder of Trucks Transit Parks Limited, TTP, offered advice to students at an impressive program where the town met the gown at the Tayo
Aderinokun Hall, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos.
The event had the crème de la crème in the academia, politics, and the business community which included Prof. Folashade Ogunsola, Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and the Blue Economy, among others, was the launch of the UNILAG-Employment Clinic: Education to Employment Transition Program, (EETP), themed Blue Career Insights.
Mr Onwubuariri urged the students desirous of a career in the blue economy to immediately begin to cultivate how to be effective and efficient team players, The third virtue he recommended to the young folks just developing skill set and character was that they should learn to cultivate the right principles that will impact positively on their character which ultimately defines a person.
The fourth point Onwubuariri admonished the young impressionable scholars to avoid is to shun destructive habits or permissive lifestyles.
Onwubuariri argued that should the students hone their skills and character along the virtuous path itemized above, their growth trajectory goes nowhere else but soars, either as an employee, or entrepreneur.
He alluded to what informed the establishment of TTP as a result of the protracted chaos on the roads leading to Apapa Port, Tin Can Port, and areas ancillary to the major axis as the fallout adversely affected roads on most parts of the island and even the mainland.
According to the MD TTP, the Eto app was developed as a solution to the logjam in logistics around the Apapa axis hence, he encouraged the students to develop an uncanny eye for identifying incongruity, and never be lazy to generate ideas that would make incongruity congruous, and success will naturally be the corollary.
The Minister of Marine Technology and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, challenged the students and by extension, the generality of Nigerian youths, to explore opportunities in the Marine and Blue Economy sector, as well as pursue their passion and contribute to the growth and development of Nigeria’s blue economy.
The Minister who is also the immediate past Governor of Osun State highlighted the prospects which, his ministry holds for the teeming youths. He also acknowledged UNILAG’s potential in the blue economy, given its lagoon front location and proximity to the coastal environment.
Earlier in her remark, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, and host of the event, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, identified the “Education to Employment Transition Program” (EETP), as part of intentional and strategic efforts aimed at improving employability and entrepreneurship through partnerships and collaborations.
She identified the maritime sector as the second largest contributor to Nigeria’s GDP and one of the largest employers of labour hence, the need to expose students to the career prospects in the sector.
According to the media statement by TTP, “the Ètò system is a prime example of how innovative thinking can address critical challenges and create new opportunities, and we are honoured
for the opportunity to share our experiences and insights with the future leaders in attendance”
The statement noted that “the UNILAG-Employment Clinic, EETP, is designed to provide students with the skills and insights needed to navigate the transition from university to employment effectively”.
TTP averred that “the program’s success highlighted the value of industry-academia collaboration in driving positive outcomes for students and the broader economy”.
