United Nigeria Airlines has announced the fourth bird attack on its aircraft engine within one month in the new year, from 1st January to 15th February 2016.
The latest attack occurred a day after Valentine’s Day, on Sunday, 15th February 2026, during takeoff of the flight scheduled for 12:00 hours, at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, of an Airbus with flight number UN0519, enroute to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos

A media statement by the airline revealed that the affected aircraft has been withdrawn from service for a comprehensive technical inspection to determine the extent of damage and to effect necessary repairs to ensure its fitness before it returns to service.
The statement said the Sunday attack made it two of UNA Airbus aircraft withdrawn from service in less than 24-hours as a result of a bird attack on its engines.
Management of the airline appealed to passengers to bear with them because removing two aircraft suddenly, in less than 24 hours, is bound to impact its schedule integrity on most routes.
The statement reiterated that “United Nigeria Airlines remains firmly committed to upholding the highest safety standards”
The airline thus entreated its teeming passengers, “We sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this unforeseen development may cause to your travel plans and kindly seek the understanding and patience of our valued passengers and the general public”.
The airline said its technical team is working diligently to minimise downtime and to provide support to all affected travellers.
