The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has suspended with immediate effect the licenses of two cockpit crew of ValueJet airline, namely Capt Oluranti Ogoyi, and his Co-Pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba.

According to the media statement from the NCAA, it received a damning report with video evidence of a serious breach of aviation safety protocols by a ValueJet Cockpit crew on Tuesday, 5th August 2025, at the domestic wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The Commander of the aircraft, Capt Oluranti Ogoyi, and the First officer Ivan Oloba, were accused of starting departure procedures from the designated bay without compliance to the mandatory pre-departure clearance protocols.

According to the NCAA, starting departure from designated bay, and without mandatory pre-departure clearance tantamount to a very reckless action as it endangered the safety of ground personnel and other airport users.

Hence, the cockpit crew and the airline were accused of contravening established civil aviation regulations and international safety standards.

Consequently, the NCAA took immediate enforcement action by suspending the licenses of the pilots, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and the co- pilot, First officer Ivan Oloba with immediate effect.

NCAA affirmed that “this suspension will remain in place pending the conclusion of a full investigation into the incident”.

It reiterated to stakeholders that as a regulatory agency it will not flinch in its safety oversight responsibilities to the air transport sector of the nation’s economy.
