26TH NUGA: UniPort leads in medals, Benson Idahosa University leads in moral rectitude

Jubilation after carting home the medals at the 26th NUGA Games at the University of Lagos

University of Port – Harcourt has emerged the overall winner of the 26th edition of NUGA games hosted by the University of Lagos.

At the end of the games held at the UNILAG sports centre over the weekend, UNIPORT emerged champion with 61 gold, 29 silver and 30 bronze medals.

UniPort had successfully defended the title it won in the last edition of the games at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue state in 2017.

Team UNIPORT dominated the swimming event where they won 20 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze medals.

The host institution, the University of Lagos, came second with 33 gold, 34 silver and 19 bronze medals.

The Debutant Nile University of Abuja came third with 15 gold, 10 silver and 13 bronze medals.

The NUGA games which started properly on Monday 21st March, at the UNILAG Sports Center had 73 Universities across Nigeria and 10,000 athletes participated in a total of 17 sporting activities.

Benson Idahosa University was awarded a prize as the best-behaved institution.

The University of Jos will host the 27th edition in 2024.
